Crickets are singing, birds are celebrating, the frogs are moaning and I’m running. It’s 6:30am on a Thursday, not that the day matters. This has been the norm for a few days now and yes, I know because I’m always out around this time, 4 mornings in a week. “What on earth would take me out so early, so often?” you might ask. Well, read on.
A while ago, I decided to heed Les Brown’s advice of developing and keeping a health plan. For years, I’ve been listening to him repeat it as though my life depended on it but it never really clicked and then one day I read a story about a man who died while running from kidnappers. Hearing that story made me realise that practice won’t only make progress, it might save my life.
But I didn’t develop a health plan until after I watched a video of Saygin Yalcin illustrate the value of life without good health. He said you can have $10,000,000 (which is a lot of money) and if you lose one or two 0’s, you’ll still have something to live on but if you take the 1 from it, then you won’t even be here to know what you have left. It took a while for it to sink in but I finally got it and that is when I decided to start a health plan.
Now starting a health plan isn’t the problem, keeping a health plan is where the treasure is. You can wake up and run or exercise today and you’ll feel refreshed and new and powerful but it will mean nothing if that is the last time you do it. For a while I had this problem, I’d wake up, run, feel like Superman and then run again after 3 or 4 weeks. Call it laziness if you want but after a while, I noticed I was losing my fitness. My legs were still weak and my heart was still slow and so I decided to build it up. This is my third time running this week and I can definitely feel and see an improvement.
But making your legs stronger and your heart harder to break aren’t the only benefits of keeping a health plan. Here are three other benefits of developing and keeping a health plan.
1) It helps your mind. I’m a creative person, like you and while it may be relatively easy to spin ideas out of almost nothing, a way to increase the response rate of your magic is by working on your body. Don’t ask me to explain, just know that if your body is right, your mind will fall into place.
2) For emergency purposes. I have seen movies where people have been chased by villains(kidnappers, robbers, stalkers, serial killers, police). Okay, I’m joking. I don’t really believe the police is bad. In fact, in Nigeria, we’re told that the police is your friend. But seriously, I’m not saying you’ll ever be in this situation but what if?
3) Do it for you. You will live longer and happier if you have good health. No unnecessary hospital bills when you’re old and grey. Sounds like a good investment to me.
I hope you start a health plan soon and for the people that care about their lives, please let me know the benefits of keeping a health plan in the comments section.
